Hitched a lift with a flying petrol tanker, obviously.

The refuelling planes have normal fuel tanks, no extra fuel than they'd have normally. They are pretty standard A330 planes, can carry 290 or so passengers. There are modifications, of course, and the fuel can be used for refuelling and/or flying. We were up for about 6 hours, and the pilots were being assessed by a trainer.

It was quite an experience.

I could look into the possibility of getting some of you together to go on one of these...

Any interest?

Surprised a queue hasn't already formed. Sounds like it could be fun: only time I've been to Brize was years ago, seeing a friend off to Antarctica.

If I were not required elsewhere then I would be interested in joining such a queue!

Pulpit Rock at Portland Bill in Dorset. (testing out my -10stop ND with my new tiny Manfrotto travel tripod)

Some people say I'm self-obsessed but that's enough about them.

There could be a possibility, but not for at least a year - so I won't start a queue yet.

Club hill climb. On Craigowl hill.
For those who are not familiar with this wee ascent, it is a private track to the transmitter masts, peaking at 25% with a chance of cowshit. There are two cattle grids to cross, the lower one has a gate which is closed when stock are in the fields. Stock is generally cows with (by now) fairly large calves. This is therefore a bit of a 'traditional' hill climb which includes getting over the gate and navigating the cows. The climb official starts at the first cattlegrid, behind a gate with 8 padlocks on. A gentle rise at about 8% to the second cattlegrid with gate, a steepening up the 'wall' before the climb relents to a mere 1 in 7 as it swings around the hill, over a cattle grid and a small kick to the finish.

It is an AND gate in that all 8 padlocks [1] must be locked to secure the gate. Any one of the agencies with a key can access it. We didn't have a key so turned it into a COR gate.

One of the riders exhibited boviphobia and insisted on a restart when the cows had moved away from the middle gate.

Here is some of the video with the timekeeper (Steve) on his way up to the finish. https://youtu.be/u9SBejrkmgU

I also have a new Garmin Virb Ultra 30 which I received this week, but still have to buy the SD Card (thought it came with the camera but costs approx £80)
