Tour de Corse

Some folk may not know that the Audax Club Parisien doesn't just run Brevet Randonneur Mondiaux but homologates a range of brevets, some completely separate from the BRM system.

The Tour de Corse is an permanent brevet looping round the coast and into the hilly interior, encouraging riders to see the best of Corsica.

Nominally it is 1000km with 14,600m climbing, though the route sheet suggests 992km. Since 1956, over 3400 have qualified for the medal. Most of last year's 99 riders used commercial organisations, covering the route in about a week but the brevet is untimed, so independent riders can be more relaxed about their daily distances.

I was one of the riders using commercial organisations - (Marmotte Tours), when I completed Tour De Corse last May.

Also rode with Marmot 2012 and really graet scenery , route and organisation; Pete`s pics allude to the added hazards of the wildlife !! Roads hugging `undulating` coastline superb too



---although surfaces at times rough---and on trip I did added `pleasure` of Col de Sorba being dug up for 10km +  .

May is the perfect time though, before the holiday traffic kicks in on the coast roads (the interior roads are always quiet enough).  Also before the hornet season, which I call a major consideration.

I once couriered a commercially-run Tour de Corse (Graham Baxter Tours) with 30 riders and just me in the hired white van lorry.  Having ridden it the year before.  Some of the coast roads were terrifying on 4 wheels, much nicer on 2!

There is also a series of UK PROFS (permanent rides on foreign soil) in Corsica, based on Porto Vecchio in the SE ranging from 100km to 600km so you could do a full SR series in the sunshine.
