I still think the Ford Capri was the epitome of vehicular elegance. I can't see one without wanting to grow a perm and slide myself over the bonnet.
I've never had the urge to grow a perm, but I did once slide myself over the bonnet of a Ford Capri!
Sadly I then slid myself up the windscreen and across the roof before being deposited on my arse on the road behind it!
The bike i *was* riding immediately previous bounced across the road and ended up wedged under the front end of a handily located ambulance.
The Capri was a practical load carrier, unlike more 'modern' cars which are enormous yet unable to accommadate more than a bag of sugar.
I did once manage to get a BBb Contrabass Tuba (in it's somewhat voluminous hard case! All up weight roughly 3 stone!) into the back seat of a friend's Capri. (not the same one as above, obviously!!) It didn't do much for what little handling the Capri had to start with, either!
Edit: Both of these occurred in East London - the first at the A118 Romford Road/A114 Upton Lane junction in Forest Gate, the other in Barking at the old North East London Poly site on the A124 Longbridge Road.
