I know how to do each type,
what are the different effects
if any ? (holding dumbbells and maybe performing bicep curls at the same time)
and what is the effect of placing the front foot on a step ?

Lunges have a greater range of motion and involve the glutes more. Glutes are good.

It takes blood and guts to be this cool but I'm still just a cliché.

thanks,
my
glutes are very good. It's the impact of landing on my heel and jarring my hip that I am worried about along with the risk of losing my balance. I did some slow static lunges with dumbells on Wednesday, had some DOMS in my hams yesterday, does that sound about right ? I want to exercise my hams.
