helicobacter is discovered with a bloodtest and no endoscopy should be necessary....and they can check your cholesterol at the same time :)

That's good.  I didn't know that.

This article even claims it is better than an endoscopy for this test.

I have Omeprazole to take for a month - if the pain comes back after that, then GP will send me for endoscope.

Omeprazole on its own or in combination?
On it's own.

I was slightly wrong - if pain comes back after the course, then they will test a stool sample for heliob

Sounds about right to me. Conservative treatment in the first instance, rather than dashing in with antibiotics.

Several yrs ago, I had about 18 months of 'dyspepsia' and periodically being prescribed ranitidine, before testing positive for Helicobacter pylori infection.  I had the course of antibiotics, and that was the end of the ache/pain.
