Yoga bridge position and lower back flexibility
« on: 07 January, 2015, 07:47:10 pm »
I was trying this position and it states that as you lower yourself back on the floor, you basically uncurl your spine. I noticed that I can uncurl the top half but the bottom half just drops down, it doesn't feel like I am lowering a vertebrate at a time.

Has anyone else felt this and how did they loosen up?

Try going on tip-toes as you lower your lower back. Real yogi ballet-pointe tip-toes. The extra elevation should help tilt the pelvis (at least, it works for me) and allow more curve in the spine.

Otherwise, lots of practice. Keep practising with a teacher and you'll get a little closer each time.

Oh, and I find it helps to make sure that my weight is properly on my shoulders and not my neck (like in a shoulder stand). Being properly set at one end of the spine allows more control at the other, if you see what I mean.
