Some people say I'm self-obsessed but that's enough about them.

That 24-85mm doesn't half vignette!
Hard work sometimes pays off in the end, but laziness ALWAYS pays off NOW.

Hoping to get a camping spot at Stourhead next Monday.  Maybe I've missed "peak Autumn" there though.

From September this year..

I used the Canon 18-135mm IS USM.  It's a great, but heavy, kit lens. Quite sharp.  It probably does vignette but that's auto-corrected in software.

From a stroll along the Epping Forest Centenary Walk (main post).  Lots of interesting trees to be seen.

Can anyone explain this pattern?

I think it's a type of worm that only digs just underneat the bark. It's been years since I had it explained to me.

Bark beetle. You can identify the species by the pattern and tree species. I have a field guide somewhere that pinpoints which one.

Who doesn't like the BIGGEST! TALLEST! ? Well, this one is the largest girth IN THE WORLD!

It's the Tree of Tule, in Oaxaca, some 1,600+ ? years old

Not captured in the photo, is the scene just around the corner from here, where I was merrily snapping away at this fascinating street parade before discovering it was a funeral  :-[ ::-)
