Brian Keenan: Back to Beirut

Finally got to watch this tonight.

Boy oh boy - this one had me in tears. Men like Brian Keenan are Big Men. This has nothing to do with guns, or status, or wealth, or heritage. They just have an ability to rise above it all and say and do things that are way way beyond me. Hell - 30 years ago I was bullied mercilessly at school and still I can't forgive the kids who did it... that's just nothing in comparison.

The 80's hostage crisis was quite keenly felt in our family. My dad bless him, was involved in Terry Waite's training. Terry would come over to our place for dinner sometimes; help with the washing up afterwards, and might tell me a story or two. Of course, all I remember was some big bloke who was a bit of a laugh, arriving home with Dad - I was about 8 at the time.

I've had a rough day at work. My house is a mess, and my lawn mower won't start. Thanks Brian - for putting all that crap well and truly in its place and reminding me of what's important.
