A month long trip to Peru in April 2005. Felt honoured to be the only gringo invited to this local three day stage race on MTB  from Lake Titicaca (3,812m) to Cusco (3,700m). The start day two listening to the mayor's speech.

The brown sign say's "La region Puno, Les Desea, Feliz Viaje, Altitud 4,335m  m.s.n.m."

Tough girls taking in all the action around at the same time trying to make a living selling handicraft!

I got of my bike at this the highest pass robbed of all my energy and with altitude sickness looming. Couldn't figure out how I could feel so sick while being in such wonderful place with a great view and nice folks all around me!

Sick to my stomach I rolled down to the finish together with a friendly local guide that also DNF. After listening to an official hurling abuse we got on the bus for a not so good ride back to Cusco.
Have a vague memory of staying in bed with fever shivering for next week only getting up every half hour to pee. Drank gallons of "Coca de Mate", tee made from fresh coca leaves witch is good for relieving altitude sickness. It's also very nutritious and I hardly eat anything dropping about 5kg.

That was all 2006 in the alps. In 2007 we were in the pyrenees.

Col d'Aspin

Hautacam - this is actually only part way up, but the top is a complete non-event. Hardest climb of the week though.

Col de Marie Balnque - again the top was a non-event, and I like to have a picture with a name on it, so this is at the start.

Last french one - my favourtie climb, descent and photo. The top was a deserted ski station but the view you couldn't fault - Luz Ardiden

Last pic, the only British one I can find. The view from the top of Buttertubs looking south towards Hawes.

True. Neither is Hautacam, or Alpe D'Huez unless you claim going down the same side of the mountain by a different road to be a pass. I'll take 'em out if you want.

No need Paul. Nice pictures BTW, I like the Luz Ardiden  one, I went up there in 94 on the Etape du Tour, it was bastard hot and I left my camera with some friends, I'd finished my film and I didn't want to carry it.

IIRC we did Aubisque and Hautecam in the same day, not the same year as my photos though, they were in 2003.

Looking back down Kingsdale before you drop down to Dentdale .

Thanks for that, onb.  The only time I went up Kingsdale (last October), you could only see about 50 metres because of fog and low cloud.  I wondered what the scenery would be like on a decent day - looks like I ought to go back there again and have a proper look!

Not strictly a pass, I suppose, but here's me at the summit of Mt Ventoux on a rather windy day last August:

And here's the view from the summit:
