We keep some betadine around - it is an iodine-based antiseptic. Consistency like hair gel.
It works very very very well on open cuts and grazes. My wife and kids have incredibly sensitive skin and they are fine with the betadine.
My wife had an injury (managed to split the web between her toes, about 1/2 back. She went to France on holiday, having had york hospital treat it and give her low-level antibiotics.
It got infected. French doctor gave her Betadine, cleaned out the wound. Healed very rapidly after that.
If you can guarantee that your wound dressings are sterile and no dirt or bugs get near a wound, then just cleaning it is enough.
If you can't guarantee that, iodine solution is great.
There is a reason why farmers have used it on animals for decades.
