End to End Record Attempt(s)
« on: 17 February, 2018, 03:16:28 pm »
Mike Broadwith (wherlsoffire on here) has just announced he’ll attempt to break Gethin Butler’s 2001 End-to-End and possibly 1000 mile records this year.   Earliest departure date end of April.

I saw another announcement last week from an Ultra Rider I hadn’t come across also having a go.   Damned if I can find it now.

Not sure if Jasmijn is going again this year.

Good to see some interest coming back into the RRA records again.

M & J could 2-up it, then they'd both break their respective records at the same time  ;)

I’ve knocked around long enough then to remember Wilko and then Gethin breaking the record.   Gethin rode a pretty normal road bike with tri-bars.   Given Mike is aero’d up to the nines I assume this will give him a bit of an advantage.

I realise that the end-to-end is cruel in terrain and weather, but let’s hope he has a good run.

Thanks for the message Rob - really looking forward to it now, having been somewhat bowled over by the response on Facebook.

If anyone would like to come and and support on the route then it would be very, very much appreciated, and if you want route and schedule details then see the Twitter link above which should both on already  :)

The other rider who has submitted a notice and schedule is a chap called Ian To who is an ultracyclist who has raced in Croatia, Italy and the TCR

Not sure if Jasmijn is going again this year.

According to her web site, she's going to have another go July or September this year.

If the date(s) match I'll go along and shout on the A38 in Gloucestershire!
It is simpler than it looks.

best of luck in breaking the record! i was vaguely planning to do a self-sustained/usupported end-to-end in under three days, so just under 500k each day which i see it being quite a challenge (to me).

That blog seems to have gone up today.   Good, honest write up and some interesting points on overtraining.   That was a lot of miles last year.
