Introducing kittens to an older incumbent cat
« on: 20 September, 2016, 05:14:09 pm »
At the weekend we got two tiny rescue kittens.  Isabella our two year old cat is not happy.  She lives her life largely outside but used to happily come in for meals plus a cuddle when she felt like it.  Now we are struggling to get her in for food.  Obviously it's early days but we are concerned.  Does anyone have any advice?  Have you been in a similar situation?

Some more info ...

We have a large cage which the kittens are living in, we let them out for extended supervised play periods.  They need supervising as they are a lively pair and keen on kicking the shit out of each other, they are also not completely house trained.  Once they are in their cage they settle down and snuggle up to each other.

At the times when Isabella likes to come into the house we make sure they are safely caged up.  We briefly introduced Issy to the kittens (Victor and Daisy) but she appeared scared of them.  When she is in the house it's clear she is very on edge.  Issy isn't good with people other than us in the house, although some regular visitors are gaining her trust.  But she's not a timid cat and regular picks fights with neighbouring felines despite being smaller than all of them!
