How do you insert hyperlinks?

How do how insert hyperlinks (in an ABC kinda way) so that a word
automatically links to the www or a picture?

Tip: if you write your text then select it with the cursor & R mouse button, clicking on the world symbol above the smileys inserts the [url] tags in the right place. Then just type the www address into the front [url] tag  as Craig said

Delete the first ] and replace with =.  Insert a ] after the URL.  Type the text you want to display before the second [.
