Stupid Parking by davelodwig, on Flickr

Ladies and Gents,

This chap is parked in the car park at my digs, not only is he parked in two spaces (one mine, one my housemates) but he's also only halfway in the spaces.  Looks a bit like he's dumped it quickly to to pop into someones flat.... Except it's been there all day.

Generally he seems to visit someone here a lot and generally parks like an arse, I note someone else has already dented a door for him.

You need two trolley jacks and a couple of burly mates . . .

I've put it on flickr as it seems you can't share from dropbox anymore unless you upgrade to pro.

As far as I could tell, they weren't responding to an emergency, and even if they were, there's plenty of room without mounting the pavement.

ETA: They've just driven off, to be replaced by someone sitting in a wankpanzer with the engine running.  At least they're not on the pavement.

Looks like there's snow in Sheffield, and the drivers are up to their normal standards in the stuff :facepalm:

I posit that excessive speed is the main factor in that accident (excessive for the conditions).

Sliding on the ice can happen to anyone but I reckon you'd have to be doing close to 30 to go through two brick walls.

Or, knowing Sheffield, excessive gradient (which amounts to the same thing, but is perhaps more symptomatic of poor judgement rather than deliberate recklessness).

I remember taking lengthy detours to avoid steep descents in slushy conditions, on account of the Fiat Of The Apocalypse's tyres being almost as fit for purpose as its electrical system.  Mind you, this was a car that could barely climb Conduit Road in the dry.

Proper winter tyres are the answer to that. But not, I think, to the driver in mcshroom's photo.

I have proper winter tyres (mandatory here in Germany) and I've got to say they make a very, very significant difference. We had proper snow two nights ago and I went out at 11am, expecting real issues (cleared 8cm of snow off the car roof) but it was all very easy. I drove very slowly and carefully but the car didn't once feel like it would slip or slide. I'm not sure I would have ventured out in the UK in the same conditions with the usual tyres but here it is normal to drive (carefully) in the snow and I was really surprised at the difference.

It is impressive that they have managed to miss the tree and the parked car and still have enough speed to make that much mess.

I wondered if there was a side road at 90 degrees to the one in the picture, and whether if so, the driver had just continued in a straight line into the house. I'm really struggling to see how they got there otherwise.

Unless they were reversing out of the front room...

I'm fairly sure that's the case (side road, not the reversing), from what I read about it. Plus there was a hill involved as well.

According to the Edinburgh Evening News, the driver had left the car to look for a parking space.

Nope. It is a deliberate way to suggest that what happened is not the driver's fault :facepalm:

The tank had an accident but the police chose to park half on the pavement.

<Pedant Alert>
The military vehicle in the article is not a tank. A tank has a small crew and a BFO gun, in the region of 105mm to 120mm.

The military vehicle in the article is an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) which is designed to transport and protect a group of Infantry soldiers. It is armed with a 25mm cannon. It is an armoured minibus.

<More pedantry>
Auntie's article does recognise that. More importantly, I like the phrase 'armoured minibus' very much indeed.  ;D
