Might not mean much to most people in the UK but anyone who is Irish or has Irish connections will be saddened that Gay Byrne has died at the grand old age of 85.
Here's your man introducing a very amature Boyzone back in in 1993 in their first TV appearance.

It’s hard to describe the impact of Gay Byrne’s show. I lived in Dublin during the 80s. His show discussed things that had
never
been openly talked about in Ireland - every social issue you can think of, at a time of intense change.
