Broken side table and red wine all over the carpet.  At 10pm on Boxing Day.  Swears bad enough to make Jacinda blush ensue.

Someone else's red wine, hopefully.

Lt. Col. Larrington (retd.)'s red wine.  The table was collateral damage – it had already been b0rked and (badly) mended so when Professor Larrington moved it the leg fell off.  Natch all the decent table-mending screws are back at Larrington Towers.

No sawns involved, though a saw might be when I try mending the table tomorrow.

Ah well, no sense in crying over spilt wine. Clean carpets are over rated.

Didn't somebody post something about repairing a table a while ago?

Very likely.  Once upon a time there was a nest of three tables inherited from Professor Larrington's godmother, of which one is twice b0rked and another is a pile of matchwood in the motor-house.  The other repaired one was a wedding present to Lt. Col. Larrington (retd.) in 1958 and is now tucked into a corner under the stairs where it can’t be sat on.

To be fair, I have a similar effect on rugs.  It's just that they runkle rather than wobble-snapping, so I tend not to get in quite so much trouble over it.

Most of the rugs in Fort Larrington have been removed to the garage as a trip hazard but the one in front of the fireplace is definitely ambulatory.

The former Ms Beardy the elder is leaving the family home today, days earlier than she originally advised. This unit is not a happy unit at this change of plans.  >:(

It'll soon be two years since our dogs died but they still managed to lighten our bank account by 300€ today. The electric chair had gathered a clump of hair that had taken that long to trip a thingummy in the drive mechanism that threw the gadget into panic mode and cut the juice. The Stannahman took about 10 minutes to clear it, then half an hour drinking coffee and showing me pictures of the house he's restoring in Brittany.
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

Boots the chemist refused1 to prepare my repeat prescription this afternoon based on ‘it only came in this morning’2 and ‘you aren’t due until the 10th’3 (January). So I’m going to have to go in the morning if I want the medication before I go away.

1. Refused is maybe a bit strong. They were reluctant, and I was reluctant to make a fuss because the pharmacist is a friend.

2. Well, the doctors surgery acknowledged they’d met my request early yesterday morning so it’s been in the system nearly two working days.

3. Well, that would have been too late because I’ll run out at the end of next week. And as I’ve already told you I’m going away tomorrow, any time after then will also be too late.

For every complex problem in the world, there is a simple and easily understood solution that’s wrong.

I have been steadily developing cold symptoms since Christmas.  This might well end up buggering my New Year plans.

^ well at least it's not that shit flu that I and loads of others have had.

My grumble is that, foolishly, I drank too much coffee today. The last one being at 4.30pm. Which means I won't sleep until probably 2am.

My Stac Zero Halcyon has been getting increasingly erratic in its connection to reality bluetooth recently, and has expressed a relucance to move one of its arms such that today I could coax no more than 120W out of it. Having "repaired" it once and as it's now out of both warranty and manufacture, I've reluctantly splashed out on a new Tacx Neo 2SE

I had my cold on the weekend of the 5th, and (just like when I was a kid, and had my adenoids removed to prevent just this…) I still have sniffles and sneezes. It’s getting really boring. Especially as I gave the cold to my wife a week later, who was totally over it in 4 days. Bah indeed  >:(

For the last few days I've had a nonspecific sore throat and a mild unproductive cough that doesn't seem to respond to my inhalers (peak flow is normal), and no other symptoms.  LFT is negative for covid and barakta seems unaffected.  Presumably I've managed to acquire some sort of lurgy from either the orthopaedic hospital or - more likely by sheer weight of numbers - the Sainsbury's pre-Christmas scrum.
