The instructions for Making Hay suggest that slow riders (like me)who arrive at Newport after dark may prefer to do the final 15 kms to arrivee via the A48 instead of via Basaleg and the lanes .
I don't enjoy riding the A48 are there any particular dangers in taking the lane route after dark? I have a pretty decent front light.

I'd imagine you're fine.
It's probably more a case of 'don't take the A48 earlier as it's nastily busy' than the other way aoround.

I've done the lanes many times in the dark and enjoyed them. You get a great view over Cardiff Bay, and you get to see the lights of Cardiff Gate services which are a welcome sight after a hard day out.

Thanks for the replies.I think I will most likely do the lane route.
Unless tight on time when the flat and fast A road may be better even if less pleasant.
