"British crossings best"

Encouraging article on the Beeb.

However, it contains a slightly ambiguous quote from our friend Edmund King of the AA.

Quote
AA president Edmund King said: "What it does show is that the crossings themselves set the standard for Europe.

"This strongly suggests that any problem with London's pedestrian crossings has to lie with their users rather than their design."

I presume he is pointing his unpleasant finger at those peasants pedestrians who use crossings to get across the road. But the way I prefer to read it is clearly that it is the vehicle drivers misusing crossings that cause the most grief.

I see one of the biggest problems is parked cars near crossings.

That'd be other people's cars </Edmund King>

I go along with Brussels having the worst. I always thought that they were just to help identify targets for the motorists to aim at. Scary stuff......

Poor logic. Having the best does not mean they are perfect, or even any good. Travants were probably the best cars in Eastern Europe ;D

Anyway, drivers use crossings too - that's why they are called crossings, because the paths of pedestrians and drivers cross on them...

Edmund King seems to have had an obnoxiousness upgrade since moving to the AA.

Brussels always seemed OK to me.

Rome, now there's a waste of perfectly good black and white paint for you.

It's good to be best at something positive.  Good to know that the fattest, least sporty,  most pregnant, most rotten-toothed, most violent, least ambitious and most drunk kids in Europe have a safe place to cross.

Best Crossings?  What an honour, what pride..I think I'm welling up
