The Snow roads to the east are the nicest to cycle on.
Not sure about cycling over the Lecht after doing 5 consecutive 200's and carrying gear though.
Yes and how would you feel after slogging along the A9 into a headwind wishing it was all over. There are only two steep bits heading north on the snow roads. One near the top of Cairnwell and the other at the start of the Lecht climb. It's a breeze

Having looked at the stages I would avoid the A9. Having ridden it once it is horrid.

I wasn't actually planning to cycle on the A9.  Going via Tummel Bridge avoids some of the A9 corridor, then there's the gravel cyclepath that parallels the A9 over Pass of Drumochter. Once on the northern side it's then possible to go via Laggan and other parallel roads rather than the A9. Or do you mean even that approach of using the cyclepath and parallel roads is crap?

I have driven the A9 countless times so am aware what that road is like and wouldn't want to cycle there. Going west to Fort William is an option I have been thinking about, but I wouldn't want to cycle the A82 over Rannoch Moor, which would mean going via Connel and the A828

I reckon the Lecht is the 2nd best climb in the UK after Bealach na Bà, but the hairpins at the bottom are as tough as they come - I'm with tys

I do not know the tracks by the side of the A9 as I am a road man who only rides tarmac, so have no experience of the tracks Adamski mentions. So it is up to personal choice. For me I would go east to the snow roads.

Plan for my 7x 200 km rides are below

Day 1 222 km: Land's End to Brambles B&B near Tiverton

Day 2 230 km: Brambles B&B to Woofferton Travelodge

Day 3 203 km: Woofferton to Orrell, near Wigan

Day 4 215 km: Orrell to Hoddom, near Annan

Day 5 230 km: Hoddom to Aberfeldy via Forth Road Bridge

Day 6 202 km: Aberfeldy to Alness

Day 7 201 km: Alness to John o' Groats

This starts tomorrow (Tuesday), when I take the seeper train to Penzance and start riding Wednesday morning.
I'll finish on Thursday 17th August and on Friday 18th August I'll cycle to Wick from where I will catch the train to Inverness and then the sleeper to London.

Hopefully that wind I had to battle into from Edinburgh on LEL will now blow me northwards

Planning on doing 7x200 in September and am quite interested to know whether it is several claims for 2 points or one 14 point claim. Would seem fairer to get two for each day as, if a decisive injury or mechanical were to occur at least some points would be gained.

If you claim 14 points in one block then you need to finish in 5 days (116 hours I think). I did this the first time I rode LEJOG and did about 300km per day. Enjoyable but harder.

On the other hand a 2 x 7 will cost 28 pounds in brevet cards alone... a single chunk should only cost 4

(This is probably going to confuse matters, but anyway...

As the former organiser of the E2E, having handed it over to Hummers, it was administered as 7 separate BR events (if you think about the regulations, it has to be like that).  However, only if it was done within the overall time limit of 10 days - I think that was the limit at least -
and satisfying the rest day requirements is it recognised as a successful E2E and so eligible for the paraphenelia like badges and medals.

That said, it was generally positioned as "not in the spirit" to enter the 7x200 and to claim for any of the legs if the overall E2E ride was not completed.  I was never tested on this, however, as my entrants all either completed the full ride or did not claim the legs they did even if they didn't finish.  That was back in days where there was less focus on the points available for doing a bike ride.

Hummers may, however, have tweaked the recipe since I ran it.)

Just enter each one as a DIY by gps. No brevet cards and done on computer and Garmin.

Dunno about e2e but other 7x200s are (only) available as single brevet expeditions with no rest days.

Coda: not that I'm routing for business but could be done as a single  7x200 GPS DIY brevet but then wouldn't be a e2e brevet... ypypatyc.

That's how I understood it. It's a facet of the "state what you are about to do and then go out and do it" idea.

If you want the cachet of being on a list (or get access to the medals/badges) as having completed an E2E as 7x200 then you have to agree to the "all or nothing" rules, so no partial claims.

Awesome riding.

The rarity of your wrong turnings is impressive. I’ve only noticed about one per day, corrected quickly. What are you using for navigation?

One track per day displayed on my Etrex 20x with OSM. No beeps for junctions, I just pay attention

I think there were two mistakes today. One was coming too fast onto a roundabout to pay attention to the Garmin and second was trying to find a cycle path south of the Forth Road Bridge. (It got messy on the north side of the bridge because of the road works, so not my fault!)

I did LEJOG in 2015 and did the central highlands. If you use the road through Eskdalemuir you go through Edinburgh and then the Forth bridge. Only a small amount of central belt. Oh and make sure you go through Dunning just south of Perth.

No worries. Beside it wasn't the best day for riding a bike yesterday. I only went out because I had accommodation  and trains booked so had to keep heading north

After a planned rest day yesterday with my parents in Aberfeldy (I got taken walking instead) I'm now in Alness, north of Inverness.

Papa αdαmsκι rode the first 70 km with me and we spent the morning hoping from one valley to another via Tummel Bridge area to avoid as much of the A9 as possible. We were essential following General Wade's military road and it was fantastic, empty roads and bleak Scottish landscape.

The cyclepath along the A9 was okay, despite the pinch flat I got and by 10:30am we're in the Pottery Bunkhouse café destroying treacle tart. The tail wind had been amazing and I was hoping it would remain with me after Laggan.

From Laggan I was again on my own, parallelling the A9. I got a soaking around Newtonmore, but it was a small price to pay for the tailwind.

After Aviemore I didn't know my route too well despite having driven the A9 countless times. This is because my route kept cutting away from the main road and it was really interesting to discover all the little places & spectular views that are missed when one is driving. It was brilliant.

I wizzed down in to Inverness, over the bridge and across the Black Isle in afternoon sun, with views of the Cromarty Bridge and the oil rigs for company.

The plan is to be in John o'Goats tomorrow, going from Alness via Loch Shin and Bettyhill. It's pretty much bang on 200 km. Hopefully the wind will be kind.
