Try it and see. I run a 13 inch Macbook at 2560x1600. My eyes can see individual quarks.

I run 1920 x 1200 on a MacBook Pro, 15". I have run it at 2880x1800  ;D
It is simpler than it looks.

Currently at 5120-by-2880 on this 27 inch iMac (I presume the minimum scaling is native resolution, whatever the highest resolution is).

For best image always run an LCD at its native resolution.

If text/icons too small, they can be adjusted in settings - but don't do this by resolution change.

No, you need some kind of system extension to get the screen at native resolution. I’ve tried it and it makes everything very very very small

This one I’ve used.

Yes, that might be a bit small, I think the lowest scaling I currently have is about as small as I'd want to go.

When it comes to scaling fonts / text to be readable on HD res smaller screens I gather Macs just do it better.  I tend to think that on windows with third party apps, one gets stuck with stupidly tiny fonts if the pixel res goes too high for the screen dimensions.  e.g. On a 1080p 17" screen, GIMP2 fonts are small enough.  I've noticed that if one goes into settings and sets screen at 125%, it's non-native and fonts are fuzzy.

I have a 15" laptop with a native 3840x2160 resolution. It works fine under windows 10 and looks lovely but I have the scaling set to 250% It doesn't work so well when you're using remote desktop or connecting to another computer that doesn't have the ability to scale the fonts etc so easily (ie 2008 server).

Which scaling do you use?  On the display settings it only goes up to 175% on this w10 machine.

It's under settings/display and Scale and Layout. 250% is the recommended value (for this machine) but it goes up to 350% maximum. I wonder if this is determined by the OS or the display drivers?
