What's with the military aircraft stuff recently?
« on: 06 December, 2017, 11:31:38 am »
I know there are many people who know far more about military aviation here than I do, so I was just wondering....

Why did two Chinooks, in all their massive glory just fly over my house? I've never seen that before. I live on a flight path - which isn't a bad thing as I get to see lots of cool aircraft, new and old - particularly when the Queen takes a shit or something and a fly past over London is required, but I've never seen so much random military stuff as I have in the last few weeks. Are we up to something?
Those wonderful norks are never far from my thoughts, oh yeah!

We have the exact opposite situation.
The Army Air Corps has been moved away from the nearby base and have been replaced by Royal Logistics Corps.

No just standard ops, regular thing but they are usually a bit further South heading more NW than todays fly over (also the odd Apache as well) plus Merlins who often visit the E2V site.

Visiting mates so used a training flight as an excuse.

More frequent than you might think.

Flight path to which base?

....the E2V site.

I used to work there. Admittedly many years ago and I just can't accept the name (this is going to be really hard to type) E2V.

It's The English Electric Valve Company FFS  :P

Occasionally for a period of a few days I get 2 Chinnocks flying over my house in Maldon at around 4 pm. I have always assumed they have been on exercise at Colchester and are travelling home for a spot of tea.
