Does anyone sell their pics online

Through something like ifp3, smugmug or by using Photostore software.

If so - what do you think? What is the best option?
It is simpler than it looks.

I have a smugmug account, but have never sold any images.  These days you wonder what it takes to sell your photos; having a specialist/niche market may help I guess.  I suspect that most people who are successful at selling online, use this as any extension of some kind of 'photo' full/PT employment.

This would be of a sporting event, which I think the only market would be for the participants. I'd do it to raise funds for the organisation.

I don't think anyone would want to buy any of my other pics!  ;D

Someone I know vaguely had a load of photos on flikr

They ocassionally got in a guide book or used in some publicity material
So he changed the license from "free use to all but please tell me" to "free for non commercial use, for commercial please ask about my reasonable fees" and hasn't had any interest since.  Whereas before he'd have  something every few months.

I would suggest that organisations who want photos search places like flikr for free stuff first
So it's pretty unlikely you can make anything from them with the way things currently are

My best images are on Flickr and I've had interest in some of my cycling photos (Tour de France, track worlds, etc). On a couple of occasions I've given the riders free usage of the photos if it's for their personal website.

A few months ago I had a rider's manager contact me about using a photo in the brochure and point of sale materials for his client's sunglasses sponsor. They weren't prepared to pay anywhere near a suitable fee for that kind of usage - essentially they wanted it for free, if they could. They're not using my photo.

That's about the same position I take. Non-commercial use is no problem and for free (although should be asked first), commercial use is another matter.

I sell a few on line from events. Not very many and it doesn't cover costs.
