Remember I posted about Photosynth, a project that takes still photos and builds a 3D collage that you can navigate around?  I tried it with a set of kite photos with moderate results.

CNN are getting in on the act with a project called "The Moment" - they want people at the US Prez Inauguration event to take a shot as Obama gets sworn in.  They'll process the thing into an enormous photosynth, a massive 3D crowd shot of Everyone Who Was There When It Happened.

Sounds like a really neat idea.

I hadn't seen your kite shots before Andy, very impressive.

The Moment could be interesting, I imagine they will get a lot of photos, so the processing will need to be impressive, or will be slow.  I wonder how they'll deal with the temporal separation, as well as physical, since obviously some photos will show changes in parts, but not in others (ie similar to the way people have moved, or changed expressions in your shots, but the backgrounds haven't changed).

Cor! Swinging round from the Prez to the absurd sea of flesh all the way back to the needle gives a real sense of the size of that crowd (and how cold it is).
