Quirky Internet Radio Stations
« on: 28 May, 2015, 08:03:37 pm »
Having just splashed out on a Pure One Flow, I've added all the usual suspects to my favourites, and some Swedish channels and a Hungarian selection.

There are thousands of streams out there, bewilderingly many, so if anyone has any suggestions of channels worth listening to, please tell.

No offence, but no jazz or classical music channels and bear in mind that (apart from Half Man Half Biscuit) I haven't bought any music since the last millenium...

I spose I'm ideally looking for good documentaries with a scientific/environmental bent, but not exclusively so.
Haggerty F, Haggerty R, Tomkins, Noble, Carrick, Robson, Crapper, Dewhurst, Macintyre, Treadmore, Davitt.

Nature podcasts? Or PBS, or Radio 4.

Have found a few with very good bitrates:

Vinyl Heaven - 192kbps AAC - only plays vinyl records.  There is something vaguely ironic about listening to crackles and pops (and some of their records sound as if they've had a hoover bag emptied over them before playing)  through a digital delivery system with a frankly insane bitrate (AAC at 192kbps is like MP3 at about 320kbps).

Cheesy FM - 256kbps MP3 - some really criminal records on here.  I like it.

Classic Rock Lounge - 192kbps MP3 - not bad as long as they don't play too much post-Pyromania Def Leppard

Hard work sometimes pays off in the end, but laziness ALWAYS pays off NOW.
