The tracker was reset at 5.58 but currently gived an estimated distance of 0.0 feet. I would say that he's about to start.

And you do realise that in 2016, when this is all over, government statistics will show a mysterious increase in people needing therapy.

At our place, Steve waited until the tracker showed his position twice after switching on the SPOT. Then he started riding.

Have a good day Steve!*

* I know he's very unlikely to see this, but it feels like it should help.
Getting there...

The weather forecast seems to have improved a bit since yesterday, with the sleet and light snow now only starting at about 9pm (when Steve is usually arriving back at base).

Ah I thought that was going to be yesterday - given the times are am not pm on the calendar!

I hope Steve is either north or east of the weather front that is now passing over Reading, it is dark and horribly wet out there. If not I expect he will be looking for his lunch cafe to shelter in.

Steve seems to have been stopped a while just here:

There's nothing of interest there, like a café. I hope he's OK.

Edit: I've re-done the arrow point because my first attempt went to the wrong place.

Ah, he's moving again after 4 points in about the same place. Puncture, I reckon.

He's heading for us, and im armed to meet him for the last bit. But I'm not sure if he's on a direct route as track leaders only has an estimated distance of 152 so far, guessing he's got another hour of loops to go.

The tracker just showed a point on the A14 where it is a frightening near motorway next point is off it so i hope that is an artifact.

Track looks like he did ride A14-A45 for a bit there. Wouldn't be my first choice of road but then again I ain't Teethgrinder.

I've ridden the A40 dual carriage way but the A14 scares me in a car. And on Mr Larrington's suggestion I once rode over the Hammersmith flyover in the rush hour.

I lived near the A14 for best part of 20 years, and never plucked up the courage.

Had you fallen out with him or whatever?  ;D

When it comes to roads it's pretty obvious from the way that Teethgrinder's begun this whole operation - he's taking no prisoners.

When I was a Penniless Student Oaf I used to use the Hammersmith Flyover every day, because Hammersmith Broadway scared me even more.

I lived near the A14 for best part of 20 years, and never plucked up the courage.

It depends on the time of day / week.

The A14 is used on lots of time trials, mainly on Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings (before 9am).  It is extremely fast tarmac.  No-one knows why; one theory is that it is something to do with the trucks going to Felixstowe rolling it flat.  Whatever, it's one of the fastest cycling roads in the country.  I have thought that Steve could do a lot worse than spend a good portion of his summer early mornings doing laps between Four Went Ways and Red Lodge.  Unless it is windy.  It is a bit exposed, and it isn't quick if you have to head into a south-westerly.

And relax!  :P
Now my duties are done update time. Apart from letting a Garmin guide him in towards roads that didn't exist, no problems today, no punctures and going well. All fed on chilli and Jackets and kit charging and drying steadily by the fire.
Now for 4 hrs kip for me before the breakfast run and making sure Steve dosen't forget anything, hope i'm organised enough to get out with him for that early ride.
