Paypal - my account has disappeared

My account seems to have disappeared.   I've had it for years and even used it recently but now it's gone.   

Any ideas what has happened?

'Gone' as in you can't log in because your account email address is not recognised?

Gona as it the system would not recognise it and said that an account with that email did not exist.

I checked and retyped four times.

I've just done my purchase over the phone then gone back to see what's happening.   Oddly my account is now there again.

Do you think that Paypal are having technical problems?

Even more peculiar.

I have now been and looked at my account including settings.  It looks like some of my settings have been reset to what they were when I opened the account more than ten years ago.  There was an old phone number and address which I have now updated again.

How bizarre.

Ah, thanks rr.   I was slightly concerned that my account had been hijacked but my natural paranoia may be misplaced.
