Daffs are coming on nicely.  Tulips are a bit more yawn, stretch, peep over the duvet, but they are definitely waking up.
Small birds are singing more and Mrs B reports twig carrying by the pair of wrens that live in our stable.  (Or the descendants thereof.)
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

There were two separate sightings of a swallow at Abberton Reservoir on 1st January, reported on the Southend RSPB website.

http://www.southendrspb.co.uk/sightings.htm

Both the reporters are reputable so I have no doubt that they are right. I understand that a probable explanation was that the bird wasn't physically up to a several thousand mile journey in late September so it hunkered down round here.

This.
It doesn't appear to have stopped growing much since I last mowed it in late October.

Almost ran over a frog which was crossing the road today. Surely frogs hibernate? At 12 or 13 deg C I suppose they might feel spring is on its way. But I, for one, won't be casting clouts.

I was out dog-walking today. 12°C or so, a bit breezy, but very spring-like, and the great tits were giving it large with their boring song.

Swan building nest on the canal in same spot as the last seven year I've walked there. Locals tell me that they have been there close to eleven years now. Hope this year's crop will be a good ones as four years ago they had eleven wee ones and it gone down hill since. With only one last year after a year of five cygnet and a goose. They started with six but swapped one for a goose.
Current mood: AARRRGGGGHHHHH !!! #bollockstobrexit

The distant chime of the ice-cream van - bang on time: Monday afternoon in the February half-term.

Daffodils fully open, peach/pear (I'm not sure which) tree next door in full blossom last week.
