I thought it ended very well. Ambiguous enough to make you think about it for ages afterwards. I only worked out a couple of things after reading the spoilers above. Very well done, and doesn't underestimate the intelligence of the audience.

It was only on second viewing that I realised Adele had died in the forest and Simon brought her back to life. I thought she was just having a little lie down!

My wife thought the chap in the cave might have been an incompletely returned Thomas but I'm not sure. There had been earlier mention of "the ones in the cave", as if they were another category of returned, those who hadn't fully reformed and so had to hide.

Water is the key - they all came from the water and they all turned back to water at the end.
