Spooks... (spoiler likely)

How's the series panning out do you think?

I thought the last one (Mon BBC3) was quite gripping, and slightly shocking.

It's brilliant entertainment. The fact that horrid things do happen and that at any time they might kill off one of the main characters helps with the tension massively. I do worry that apparently MI5 only have a team of six people to handle security for the whole of the UK though :)
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

I have a feeling that this only became apparent during the last series. Before then I had the impression they were just another team (aren't they called 'Section D' ?). Anyway, we shouldn't worry - they only deal with London problems, so maybe the other 90% of MI5 deals with the Provinces.

p.s. could we 'spoiler' this thread's title if you guys reveal any more details of the next show? :)

It used to be so good, back in the day of the infamous "arm in the deep fat fryer" episode.

Now they are just trying to be too cool and have lost me.

It was her head! Mother-in-law has every series on DVD and we've recently watched that first series again - and that scene is still one of the most shocking things I've ever seen on telly.

I think it went off the boil in the third series, when it became very apparent that it was trying to be a copy of 24, but I've been watching this current series and finding it thoroughly brilliant - OK, so the whole thing is utterly preposterous, but the one with the terrorists bombing a market place was suspense-drama at its finest.

The cliff-hanger at the end of Saturday's was a cracker. Not an actual cracker - that wouldn't be very good. A metaphorical cracker.

Just watched (no7) too, it was excellent, tense stuff - a tad gruesome though  :o  I got a bit of a 'Bourne flavour', with music etc, when Lucas was fighting in the Moscow kitchen scene.

It doesn't quite get up to the deep fat fryer I guess - but yikes - graphic.  Mind you I wondered what that Russian was having his head put in by Lucas to begin with...

Same here. Didn't even get round to opening the beer I'd lined up!

Anyone else seeing "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" references?

I missed it this week but I've downloaded it to watch later. The comments on this episode are intriguing to say the least... I can't wait.

Like the retired analyst who is brought back being called Connie, that sort of thing?

Indeed, but also the "flushing out the Mole" operation seemed to have more similarities to TTSS than it had to, eg between what Ricky Tarr and Lucas do. Perhaps just an impression. Anyway, if some "homage" is intended, I'm glad.

Watching episode 7 for the second time was even more tense!

more similarities to TTSS than it had to

Hmm. Not sure, but there did seem to be things like bits of TTSS (Jim Prideaux dons different jacket and exits through fire door), and also "Smiley's People" (vital package stowed in brothel). Just the inevitable content of spy stories?

Big difference: in TTSS there were no direct clues about who the Mole was. (Or I missed them... very likely!)

That was quite a finale. I can't wait till the next series to find out what's going to happen. I need to know now!

I'm in Scotland. The last 3 episodes have been on Saturday nights, not Mondays. So I've seen the end of the series now.
