I like this ride.  It's an amalgam of 2 separate events set up by Sheila Simpson and Rob Kilby, when the only option at Newport on a Sunday was the Shell petrol station.  That was fine for fewer than 40 riders but we've outgrown that.  Thank goodness there are now cafes at Waitrose, and at the garden centre on the bypass.

Waitrose thoughtfully offer a "help you to your car" service, although I doubt they anticipate your car being parked 100km away.

Entered.

My first 200k of the year hopefully.

Might try and push on at Newport and stop at the café in Audlem at about 130k

It is a Holy Place for cyclists and all Pilgrims of Audax should pay their respects.

That probably means that the place will be full by the time I get there!

Hear Here.  It's impossible for me to pick a favourite café, but it's probably either the Priesthouse in Audlem or the Smithy in Monyash.  They both serve excellent Staffordshire Oat Cakes, even though they are (respectively) in Cheshire and Derbyshire.

Entered this as my Feb 200. Weather forecast looks like it might be... erm exciting.

UK Outlook for Thursday 25 Feb 2016 to Thursday 10 Mar 2016:
Indications are that the end of February will be dominated by unsettled, changeable weather coming in from the Atlantic. This will bring showers or longer spells of rain to most parts, wettest in northwestern areas. Snow is likely at times, mainly over northern hills. Temperatures should generally be near normal for the time of year, with the chance of occasional frosty nights where skies become clear. Generally windy with gales or even severe gales at times, mainly in northern and western parts

I dont bother with 'weather forecasts' until about 24-hours before an event now, and even then it can still change!

There's a link to the weather forecast on the Peak Audax website at Newport 200 and Audlem 150 although I agree, there's no point in looking at it just yet.

Just entered, hope I finish this year, baled last year due to being frozen stiff from the snow and headwind down past Radway.  :)

PayPal entries open until Sunday 21st, so still time to get organised. Around 100 for the Newport so far, plus forty-something for the Radway 150. I'm afraid it's commercial soup this year as my chef has other things to do on the Friday and Saturday. Never mind, I don't expect anyone to leave hungry!

I don't suppose anyone can give me a lift from the East side of the country?

Mr Smith isn't riding and I hate driving.

Well I set off with good intentions, bought meself a camelback type thingy after running out of water on last month's mere 200. Supped all the way down to Newport (or thoght I'd supped enough), got crampies just shy of Newport, stretched and guzzled more water and made it into town. The ride down was made more pleasurable by me having Ella's company for most of it, Ella would sometimes be in front and I would catch up or vice versa and some of it we rode together, nice to have some company.

Got to Newport for about 12:00 so about 4 hrs down, had lunch in Waitrose and we set off again, legs now seeming OK but a little tired (old git that I am). Ella had got in front again after adbaston and I had to pay a visit, so found myself alone in the lanes. That's OK but my head said I'd had enough, so I garmined stations, hmm Stafford 16Km and Crewe 21 Km. now I thought Stafford was on the main line between London and Manchester, but I didn't want to chance it so Crewe it was.

I set off but making sure I drank more frequently and found myself actually zooming into Crewe and caught the 4:17 train to Stockport. I'm very disappointed in myself as I know if I'd drunk more, I could have made the whole ride, Damn and blast my stoopid head (not listening to it any more).

Other than that what a great day out, thanks Tim and helpers.

Will post Strava later.

Great day out and the weather gods where kind, many thank to Tim and his happy crew of volunteers   8)  only niggling problem was the amount of salt on the roads which did make cornering a tad twitchy with the back end stepping out a couple of times .

Sorry you suffered mate. I sweat under light bulb so have to drink lots!!

It helps me to survive, hope you sort issue, to enjoy your rides.

Sounds about right for 4 hours but it's quite personal you must need more.

I reckoned on 2 Litres to Newport then refill, but still had about half left at Crewe, must learn to drink it
