Turbo Trainer for a tirke
« on: 11 October, 2016, 07:05:31 pm »
As a relative newbie to Bents I want to train over the dark winter nights such that I can confidently take on another Audax in the new year. So I was thinking of investing in a turbo trainer. Initially I was tempted by the Cycleops range as they produce an adapter for 20" wheels and my Trice QNT has a 20" rear wheel. However I believe that I can suitably modify Dirty Pro ToolsTM Variable Speed Magnetic Bike Trainer Turbo to suit the smaller wheels. Any advise or experience from someone already using a similar set up would be very welcome.

I've got a very basic turbo that I got for £20 from eBay for physiotherapy and bike fettling purposes.  I was able to bodge it for an ICE Sprint RS (20" rear) with the addition of a couple of bits of MDF from the Useful Bits Of Wood stash and some nuts and bolts.  All you need to do is extend the resistance unit mounting inwards until it meets the tyre.

A couple of breeze blocks under the front wheels to keep the trike level, and job's a good'un.

I believe rollers may also work.
