Whilst pondering the question of how to buy a little more highway real-estate and prevent drivers overtaking too close, I recall an online discussion from several years ago about using a laser to project the image of a cycle lane to the right of your bicycle.

Sort of like a bike lane you take with you.

I think it was deemed a bit tough at the time to produce a battery powered, fully animated laser light show that was bright enough and robust enough for bolting to a bicycle.

Then I was in Maplins at the weekend an happened up on this:


   Pocket Laser Show > Maplin


Although not a cycle lane, I expect that aiming a swirly psychedelic pattern just starboard of your back wheel is probably going to be nearly as effective.
