Replacement chuck for a corded electric drill
« on: 03 April, 2018, 07:44:48 pm »
The keyless chuck on my Hitachi corded hammer drill has always been suspect.  I got to wondering if I can remove the chuck and if replacements are available, and not surprisingly, it's "yes" to both.

So, I have removed the chuck.  It is a 13mm keyless type and appears to be attached onto what I believe is a 10mm rh thread shaft.

The question is, do I have to order and wait for an Hitachi variant or can I simply buy the DeWALT version that Screwfix has in stock and be on my way?   Anybody know?

I think there are a couple of standard threads for drill chucks - 3/8in and 1/2in UNF. 10mm sounds close enough to 3/8in, but the keyless DeWalt DT7043-QZ listed by Screwfix is 1/2in.

You're constrained by size, not by brand - a chuck's a chuck ... I think the Erbauer one at Screwfix should fit.

Ah, now it is clearer.  Thanks Jsabine.

I guess that size is everything!   :D

If you can wait till next week we have a big box of chucks at work. I could see what size they are and stick one in the post if it's suitable.

Getting somebody who has functioning centre field vision to do the measurement I can now confirm that it is in fact a 1/2 inch version and not a 3/8 inch version.   :-[

Very generous of you Sir.  Works begin on Monday 23rd so I have couple of weeks in hand.   :)

Alas all the chucks in the box are 3/8" mount rather than 1/2". Sorry about that.
