Daily Telegraph: Positive article on Audax
« on: 23 June, 2018, 06:51:20 am »
Very interesting article on page 7 of the Saturday supplement in today's Daily Telegraph, which
goes on to portray Audax in a positive manner. It features one of Cheltenham CTC's former members,
Robert Hanwell, who now rides for a club in Hackney.

Despite the toe-curling headline and some minor factual errors, I'm pleased with the way the piece has turned out. And Robert and Agi were wonderfully helpful in agreeing to be interviewed and turning up for a photo shoot at very short notice.  Hopefully, we've got across the message that Audax is both challenging and welcoming at the same time (and not a he**et) in sight  :demon:).
Why should anybody steal a watch when they can steal a bicycle?

Perhaps the best news is that we have a new* Comms Director. Well done that man :)

I read that as "new" as in we're still looking for one.  Or has someone stepped up for this?

I like the way they've placed "28 signs your husband is having an affair" in the sidebar. Disappearing for 20+ hours into the middle of nowhere would be one perhaps.

On the longer events it's not too difficult to manage both.

Indeed. I have often bonked on long rides.

Guilty as charged - as of about 2 weeks ago, subject to approval at the next AGM, although I don't think we've got it updated on the web site yet.

Lots to think about and very happy to receive observations and suggestions from other members (by PM please, though!)

You should have written the headline. Would have sold a few more papers

Thanks for the opportunity to be interviewed. Was lucky at the time I started road/touring cycling that a few club riders were going off to do LEL then later on PBP from Cheltenham CTC, which inspired me.  I do miss Cheltenham CTC rides.  :'(  The photographer was good as he also cycled and we spent some time talking about bikes. Had to go after work on the Surly LHT which has my bike lock on, if you look closely.  ;D  Anyway hope its all ok and gets over my sort of riding, which leans towards touring {Adventure Cycling?}.

On the contrary, I see we have you at http://www.aukweb.net/official/contacts/.  It seems appropriate that the Comms Director should be able to get this particular appointment announced.  Best of luck with this post.  For my part, I was delighted to have been able to pass on the Membership role to some very capable hands.

You should be able to register for free, which gives you access to about half a dozen articles each week. You do have to be sure to opt out of the "can we send you junk mail" option though.

I've registered but it won't let me read it without a subscription.

eta Switched to Firefox, which worked for some reason.

.... for PBP I went to 69".

I can* spin to about 210rpm, but not for long.

* Could. Not tried for a while, and my thighs are bigger now.
