On the Tor Hole control - I had a look on StreetView and found a cottage or two where I think it is - can anyone confirm if this looks correct?

http://goo.gl/maps/87hZq

Going to be very pleasant conditions by the look of it (though maybe a sterner breeze than is required for just the purposes of cooling a perspiring brow).

Right! What's next?

Ooooh. That sounds like a daft idea.  I am in!

It is the next cottage with a barn up the road in W direction (it's partially obscured by trees on Streetview). Remember we will be cycling in E direction so Tor Hole will be 1st cottage on right after taking L fork from B3135.

Drew usually puts up a red LED & AUK sign to help.

Edit This shows cottage more clearly:

I'll follow my nose (for the stench of sweaty randonneurs) and my ears (for the cacophany of their chomping and snoring)  ;D

I feel like I'm packing for my summer holidays.  Sun lotion, possibly aftersun, debating how light a shirt I'll need, putting the long sleeve one away, no need for a heavy rain jacket surely,....

Ah, summer, how I've missed you (but reserve the right to be British and complain that it is too hot).

Feeling the same - it's all a bit confusing really, trying to remember what works well in hot conditions etc.

Bike fettled with a new chain, regreased pedal bearings etc. - rode 60ish km on it yesterday and it felt a lot smoother again.
Right! What's next?

;D Raining here in Bournemouth too but the forecast for tomorrow and Sunday is GREAT - especially Sunday, so the Solent weather lady just said
suppose she'll be correct  :-\

Just as a slightly diversionary question for Shawn or anyone else who understands the intricacies of ACP brevet numbers.

Just having a look at my results, as I knew I must be close to my first 50 points this season (and indeed this weekend will see me do that!) -  I note that on the Porkers 400 results, it has gone from 'provisional' to, well, not provisional - however, the ACP number isn't there.

Should it be?  I know they can take sometime to come through.

I just like to keep a tally on my ACP brevets for the ACP awards - so I would hate to miss out on another 4 points towards those.

Right! What's next?

Should it be?  I know they can take sometime to come through.

I just like to keep a tally on my ACP brevets for the ACP awards - so I would hate to miss out on another 4 points towards those.

The validation/recording process works as follows:
i) The organiser submits the finishers list to AUK using the online start/finish list. At this point the results get listed as "provisional".
ii) The organiser sends their return paperwork, and validation fee (and if required the brevet cards) to the AUK validators. When they're received (assuming everything is in order) then the "provisional" is removed from the results list.
For BR and BP events that's it. For BRM events though...
iii) The results list is sent to ACP in Paris for their validation. Eventually (and sometimes it does take until "eventually") they send AUK back a set of validation stickers and ACP validation numbers. These can be appended to the online results, the stickers attached to the cards and sent back to the organiser.

So right now, your Porkers validation is away in Paris with ACP.

What a great start to the ride.  I was on duty at the 80km Amport control.  The Hawk Inn provided splendid food and provided it very quickly.  We're talking Eggs Benedict "Royale" rather than tinned peaches in cold Rice Pudding.  Lovely location in which to sit, eat, drink and wait for the riders to turn up.

Which one were you?

How novel!

I forgot it was the Brimstone this weekend and ended up cycling with a few buddies out to Malmesbury, blinking co-incidence that we stopped at the Summer Café for cake.

Saw some audaxers and couldn't for the life of me understand why. Then I checked the calendar. You crazy people go all the way from Poole up to Malmesbury?!

Saw two YACF jersey's, one in Green and one in Black. I was with a lady and gentleman, I was wearing a white Giant top.

Lovely weather for it and a tailwind for the return.

I have the badge.

Blimey you have to work for it.

What a wonderful series.

The Brimstone was a corker, very challenging climbing (the road to Drew's at 2am with 380k in your legs will stay in my memory for a long time (not least because I fell off going uphill))

Looks like everyone will make it. Certainly everyone got through Drew's at 400km. Hummers has embraced his inner hipster and is sporting a single speed Hummercian due to a snapped rear mech. Sure he will finish though.

I will write more later. But truly this has been a magnificent series. Shawn has looked after us so well with his team of volunteers who have given up their valuable time. It is all most appreciated.   The hills, however, were not always appreciated (most of the time though!).
Right! What's next?
