Broken Hub Flange
« on: 14 April, 2010, 09:01:47 pm »
Just wheeled the tandem out of the shed after the winter,

Noticed the back wheel was out of true, and then found three spokes loose due to a chunk missing form the flange. It may have been cracked, but failed possibly due to cold weather?

Has anyone got a spare 48 H hub, the original was a DT Hugi.

I think you should return the wheel as is to Hugi.

We had a similar hub failure (Hope) early in a tour of Britanny last September - 6 flapping spokes.  Managed to nurse it back to St Malo and came home.  Trying again this next September, on a completely new wheelset.

Happened to me once on the front wheel of a solo, not that that helps much.

Are Hugi and Hope hubs machined from a solid block of metal, rather than being forged? It might account of the breakages.

Hope are machined.  Don't know about Hugi.  We've replaced with Shimano, which I understand are forged.
