Seasonal Treats
« on: 05 March, 2009, 06:36:09 pm »

Its at this time of year that I find life starts improving as various seasonal treats really start arriving.

And as a good start for this year have got two goose eggs sitting ready downstairs in the kitchen.

They will definitely be enjoyed, not just for the flavour, but also a good indicator that spring is not far away.

Purple sprouting broccoli being one such. And not too long to wait for asparagus.

Been having herdwick lamb recently - corr - the flavour is amazing.

And I noticed asparagus too - second best present i ever had was when a mate turned up with and ENTIRE BOX of fresh asparagus - we had soup with it and  it was FAB..... ;D (weighed in at 3.5lbs.)  Thought I had died and gone to heaven. especially when eaten with the home made bread.  It was a lot of work, but hey, Nothing, not even a bike ride beats  a good meal.  and there was hardly any washing up.

Pity the parsnips are past their best. I love roasted parsnip.

Next up is my favourite fruits - raspberries and gooseberries - heaven definitely  was on a good day when they put gooseberries and elderflower out at teh same time.

Must go - too busy drooling.
