Title: Extended Sheldon fender nut?
Post by: Sergeant Pluck on 05 February, 2010, 10:33:17 pm
Hi all

Does anyone know if an extended Sheldon fender nut is available, perhaps made by someone other than Problem Solvers?

SJS show the standard ones here:

http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/find.asp?src=froogle&manufacturer_id=Problem_Solvers (http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/find.asp?src=froogle&manufacturer_id=Problem_Solvers)

Ideally what I'd like is a front Sheldon nut that is about 5 mm longer than standard.

I've used a "Flinger front fork bolt" to which you attach a mudguard bracket captured by a nut (domed if available). I got mine from: Flinger Front Fork Bolt for Deep Fork Crown (cc) (£2.89) (http://www.edinburghbicycle.com/ebwPNLqrymode.a4p?f%5FProductID=8587&f%5FSupersetQRY=KFlinger&f%5FSortOrderID=%2D1&f%5Fbct=)

But do note that it works only if the back of your fork crown isn't recessed, since otherwise the flats of the nut will probably bind on the rebate in the fork.

I think that might be the very thing  :) Now that you've reminded me, I recall seeing these before but they had completely slipped my mind.

Probably perfect, thanks!
