I lied.
Today was the first day of the Dundee Thistle Two Day stage race.
Prologue: An ascent of Dundee Law - chronoscalata. As the famous Irish sprinter Sean Kelly said, that's a f***ing stupid idea for a biek race.
It leads to pain as you climb high above Dundee (pics by Rachel my 13yo daughter)
Then stage 1 (pics by me). Neutralised at the start for an extra 6 miles due to resurfacing works.
A small break starts
stretches the peloton out past the pub.. no time for a pint.
gets a bit more of a gap..
but is eventually pulled back together
We don't do sunflower fields in Scotland. Today's stage was flattish. Tomorrows goes over those hills, many times.
It ended in a bunch sprint. John Kermode made good use of his local knowledge and excellent form to take an emphatic win.
With the 20s time bonus for the win, and an excellent prologue, that puts him in the race leaders yellow jersey for tomorrow's stage. Pitcur, Collace, Littleton x3 if you are local and want to come and watch.
