Author Topic: Polaris Eva Bike Pod for Brompton air travel ... experience/thoughts?  (Read 2638 times)

Having just become the proud owner of a S6L I'm looking to take it on planes with me as I travel for work.
I see there are 2 wheely case options of which the Eva bike pod appears the lightest (airlines max weight is 20kg hold baggage free).

The alternative is here, but is notably heavier and I'd be close to the weight limit with an 11.5kg Brommie:

Before I electronically transfer any hard-earned scheckels, any thoughts?

Hi we have 2 Eva bike pods. One has done 5 trips abroad and one has
done 2. They are very quick to load a brompton into, just a few minutes
A couple of the straps that you use internally have broken away from
the case and a pull through plastic buckle has also broken. This does
stop us using them mind you, but I felt the straps did keep the bikes
a bit more secure. We are trying through the shop were we brought them to speak to the
manufacture to get their comments. The cases are very easy to use
and roll very well. My concern was the softness of the case but this
keeps the weight down considerably. I do fancy the b&w case for the
better protection but it adds more weight. We both now have 8 & 11
Alfine bromptons so our weight has gone up slightly. It an awkward
call but I'm hedging towards the b&w but saying that nothing has been
damaged in transit yet. If the bike cases are stacked upright in flight
you should never have a problem. How are cases stacked in aeroplanes?
Oh and we do declare them and they go the large luggage area as bikes and pay the extra charge.

Pah, who needs a hard case - just stick it in the overhead bin!   :-)

I've heard many testify that this is possible.  But you gotta get it to the gate and frankly I'd rather check it at the front desk and save my energy!
Me and the Brommie are just back from windy Denmark :-)

I was only kidding :-) I wouldn't dream of risking it!

I know ... but they will take them 'naked' in business class and put them in the locker or overhead compartment.
