Did someone mention that smug wonker Jools 'smug wonker' Holland?

Come my coronation, he will be shot. Along with Elaine Paige and Terry Wogan.

Annie, thanks for the offer but I don't think your jamas will fit me.

H

Smug he may be - but he has some ACE musicians on - I'll probably be watching his show.

I will be nursing my cold-from-hell-might-be-flu, along with my family who all have same. I would be surprised if we all make it past 10pm, let alone midnight. We have postponed the new year's eve feast of roast sirloin and Krug until we are all well enough to appreciate it.
Bah bloody humbug. Coughcoughcoughcoughcough.

I'll be going to my brothers where we're all going to the local carvery for some grub, then back to his house for loads of beer and to take the piss out my dad.

I have to confess that I had never heard of this "lump of coal" mallarkey until the first time I spent a New Year's Eve at Mrs. Wow's parents' place. I felt like a right idiot wandering out to their coal bunker in the pissing Stalybridge rain looking for this bloody piece of coal.

What about the piece of bread?  The new year was always brought in with a piece of coal and a piece of bread. The coal was for a year of warmth and the bread was for a year of no hunger.

What about the tall, dark handsome stranger. He is meant to bring the coal and it's exchanged for a piece of silver.

If all tall dark handsome bloke turns up at my door, he'll get more than a piece of silver.

It takes more than that too look like an idiot in Stalybridge.

Have already had a sort of New Years Eve event.

A couple of pints of Bath Ales Gem and a fish finger sandwich at a good pub with three of the small number of people who have come in to work today.

Whatever you all do later have a good time - I have to admit I'm of the "please can midnight come and go so I can go to sleep" persuasion.

Am feeling terribly bah humbug about the whole thing this year. His nibs and I have been invited to a party but heres the catch:

1) the host is full of cold and his wife heavily pregnant.
2) their best friends at the party are also full of cold.
3) I am handing in my dissertation in 2 weeks so do not want to catch said lurgy.
4) My husband has to get up at 5.am. to go to work.
5) They will, undoubtedly at the party, start playing 'Guitar Hero'  ::-)

Anyway, Blwyddyn Newydd Dda to you all!

Mr shifty is working lates, and therefore we are Staying In (i.e. I'm not going anywhere, and when he gets home he won't want to either).  I shall no doubt have a small glass of something, whiling away the hours on here and another forum.  I may wander off and read a book.
