Removing Shimano BMX freewheel
« on: 22 April, 2008, 11:56:14 am »
I've got one of these and, as it never gets used, I'd like to remove it from my flip-flop hub.

Does anyone know of a way to get it off without resorting to buying a tool that would get used once, and without going to the LBS?

Screwdriver and a hammer?

Crush the freewheel in a vice, it won't be much use afterwards though.
Wheel meet again, don't know where, don't know when...

Thanks for that, but I'd prefer to preserve the thing if possible.

Otherwise a hammer and chisel would definitely be my modus operandi  ;)

Cheers MV that is very generous!   :)

I'm going to have a couple of goes at removing it myself (probably over the weekend), but I may PM you if I don't have any success.

Sorted now- thanks all!

I just had to root through my mate's toolbox and find his adjustable pin spanner from the dark old days of cup & cone bottom brackets.  Job done!
