short as poss stem and brake levers (for drops)?
« on: 28 April, 2008, 05:54:44 pm »
subject line says it really.

I am thinking I need the bars about 1cm or so closer, the stem was as short as I could get, afaik (I think 60mm).
I think there are 'short reach' versions of the brake levers I got (brakes only as I have bar end shifters)

anyone got any suggestions/recomendations?

[edit, yes I did mean 60mm]

6 mm stem  ???

I know you can get mtb stems from 33 mm, but you might get into trouble with the handlebar size
25.4mm vs. 26mm.
If you have oversize = 31.8 mm then no problems.

You probably mean 60mm!

From memory (and my memory can be faulty), there is a 50mm version of 3T "The Stem" for 25.8mm bars.  I will look around the net for one later.  It's possible that it's been discontinued, but also possible that someone somewhere will still have one.

A more steeply rising stem would also reduce the reach even when the quoted length (extension) is the same.  It perhaps could be fitted lower down if you don't want the bars raised too.

Another answer could be an adjustable stem.

this site confirms there was a 50mm version of 3T The Stem, though JE James is out of stock.

There is one in the USA on eBay - item #360021825043.
