'Gel' shorts
« on: 01 May, 2008, 09:11:26 am »
I'm after a new pair of bib-shorts and noticed that there are a number of newer models that include 'gel' pads within the chamois, presumably to aid comfort.  Obviously you are paying a premium for this added extra.

Has anybody any real-life experience of these?  Or is it a solution looking for a problem?

I've got a pair of primal wear shorts with a gel chamois.
On short rides I found them extremely comfortable. However, on longer, er...sweatier rides they tend to keep my derrière a bit moist which leads to some discomfort. Plus they aren't very easy to dry when on tour because the gel bit takes ages to dry properly.

Sorry if this was too much information.  :-[
