Eating Out in Elgin
« on: 13 September, 2009, 02:45:42 pm »
I'll be working in Elgin for a couple of days this week, and Mrs eck is coming too.
Does anyone know of any half decent (not too posh) pubs or restaurants in this nice wee town for an evening meal?
It's a bit weird, but actually quite wonderful.

And more from the lovely Michael!

"The Thai place is Pattaya and everyone seems to like that.

Taj Mahal is the top Indian one in an old church near the high street.

Oh and apparently the place everyone is talking about Chapter One but that's in Forres but that's only about 20 minutes away in the train...

Oh there's just the one night club, Joannas but I wouldn't really recommend that

Hope that helps :D "

That is really helpful. Many thanks Ariadne and Michael.
I think we might try the Thai place.
I'm not sure if I have the stamina for a nightclub these days but maybe I'll ask Mrs eck if she wants to go?  :demon:

Hi Eck,

I've eaten out in Elgin more times than I can remember, what with it being the malt distilling capital of the world and all. Anyway, while the Thai place is very good, I usually end up going to the Emperor Chinese Restaurant in North College Street. It does an amazingly good value dinner menu. You can order as much food as you like, all freshly made to order, for a fixed price. Can't remember the actual cost 'cos I'm usually in a big crowd and somebody else pays, but I know that we eat a lot more there than in other places and it always costs less.

If you're there for a few nights then the Qismat Indian in the high street does a decent Tandoori and Pizzeria Toscana in Thunderton lane is a nice wee Italian.

You could take Alison to stand outside Joanna's if you want to share the joy of 1am in Cowdenbeath. But don't go in.

Is this advice based on personal experience, Mr V? And is this experience something of which Mrs V is aware?

Coming from Fife, this sounds like my kind of place.  ;D

Many many thanks to you, Ariande, and to "the lovely Michael".
We did indeed go to the Pattaya last night, and it was brilliant. Superb food, lovely service.  :)
