Not really worth its own board, but maybe a sticky.

I'll kick off.

That is usually the intention round here as it makes life much easier for the recorders/judges.

Yes, it flattens out for the line, but there's a steep climb just before that. Normally they come up in ones and twos, it's rare for them to be to this close together. The same finish is also used for the Wasp RR in August (it's the sting in the tail, arf!)

Hi Annie! I am a complete Luddite, but I'll answer as I think your post fell into the graveyard shift chasm:

You need to get your video onto the web first. Youtube is the most popular place to do this, so that's where I would start. It will probably be a bit tedious the first time (involving registering there, yada yada), but cannot be difficult as all sorts of morons have posted stuff there ;)

To post on THIS thread, simply post the URL from Youtube. That's it.

I threw some PBP photos at Picasa and let it do its thing.

All the pannng and zooming is automatic so it misses a few key faces...anyway...it's good for PBP YACFer spotting.

On the second video you wrote that your SD card filled up. What size card are you using, and what resolution do you have the camera set at? I use a GoPro HD too, I set the resolution to 720p @ 30 frames per second. This gives me roughly 4Gb per hour of recording. I use a 32Gb card.

Got 2 8 gb cards you should get 1 hour of footage on both on the r5 setting which is 1080p
After much faffing with buttons I leave it on 1 button press mode hopefully will get a 32gb card for 4 hours of footage have bought the chesty harness for better shots ,hopefully off to Arran this weekend so will film that

So anyway..

I bought my son a £50 Raleigh off of off Ebay so he could commute across Clapham without fear of losing an expensive bike.

That got him enjoying cycling to the extent he went out for non-commuting rides.

That got him buying a quicker bike from Wiggle.

My talk of my French Camping rides got him thinking of a ride around Normandie with his flat-mates.

So I bought him a GoPro.

It's done using the entry-level (£95) Go Pro Hero but I'm most impressed with the "Diet Coke Advert" style of his video.  I think that cycling with Diet Coke type friends helps a lot.

I'll definitely buy a Go Pro myself, for camping trips with "The Faccombe 4", but I'm afraid the result could look more like a commercial for Stannah Stair Lifts or something where you get a free pen just for calling Michael Parkinson.

I bought a Drift HD camera a few years ago, but it's been sitting in the box it came with for ages.
Connected it to the bike on Friday to test it out.
It was a very bright day, so there is a lot of flare on the picture and as I had connected the camera to the handlebar the angle looks slightly weird.
Is a 8 minute video too long?
Should I cut it down to around 4 minutes?

I think 5 minutes is generally more than enough for any cycling video for public consumption (And one side of A4 enough for any ride report....just my view).

I got 10 days of my PBP ride into 5 minutes and tried to mix the shots up a bit, to tell a story.

10 Days in 5 minutes (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPRxZeQTSDE) <<<

Whether it works or not is personal preference but I made it based on the video of my son's ride (see above) video which I loved.

It was my first real go, and it's difficult to decide what to leave out, therefore having a short backing track, and editing to the beat, gives you a clear goal.

I find that having an end video in mind helps you look for shots during the ride, Cafe stops, other people, local landmarks, various angles....etc.

Otherwise it can tend to look like accident-cam footage.

A year later, and due to the success of my lad's first cycle adventure, he persuaded his young, attractive, friends to head over to the WWI memorials around Ypres.
His friends make his videos look more like GAP adverts than the ones I make with middle-aged Audaxers.

I've said it before but what I like about the GoPro is that it really seems to capture the feel of riding.

I'm very happy that my son seems to fully understand what makes cycling so wonderful.

It’s good that he’s edited it in to short sections cutting of different shots and kept it short.  The problem with many videos is that they are not edited, have lots of footage of the same stuff, and go on too long. Most videos in other words are dull. But enjoyed your son’s one you linked.

TINAT Audax: Claerwen via Devil's staircase.  ~110km / 2000m,  June 2018

Great ride, fond memories - hopefully be able to do this again at some point.  Pretty warm conditions - being able to soak feet in the ford was amazing!  Claerwen track somewhat challenging for IS capabilities of VIRB.

As will shortly become clear, I don't specialise (https://youtu.be/YprWYSLLlYM) in cycling videos. Pet rabbit videos (https://youtu.be/k40AxCLi3Jg) are more my thing (https://youtu.be/plmBRfmZ9V4?si=agfhQwkvZz7Ah9vi) (subtitles should show automatically, but if not, click CC).

Now that your expectations have been managed, welcome to Bodiam Castle, approach from the south:

I've only made one cycling video and you'd have to be have been around here circa 2005/6 to have seen it.

I've no idea where it is.
