Washing Machine Signals
« on: 19 December, 2010, 06:28:19 pm »
My washing machine (a Hotpoint WD420 without an LCD display) is flashing lights at me and, crucially, not washing my clothes.

It's all very well those clever Hotpoint people getting the machine to tell you what's wrong, but, without a legent to decode it, I have no idea what's up :(

ftr, in case anyone knows, the On/off light is flashing constantly, and the Time Saver light is flashing slower.

The online manual doesn't give any clues.

Frozen pipes, so lack of water to the washing machine?
Seems a likely cause in the current weather (happened with our washing machine last week).

PB, thanks.  I've seen that, but it depends how you number the lights :-\

"Time Saver" appears to be light 4, which PB's link says indicates a door lock problem. Give the door a firm thump to make sure it has registered as being shut.

Most usually left to right if in a line, top left to top right, next row left to right, etc. if in a cluster.

Be grateful it's not a tumble drier - ours incinerated my clothes.

We now use a washing line.

It's a long time since we had a Hotpoint machine, and I can't remember the error indcators, but we had to replace the door lock on ours at least twice.  Eventually we bought a Miele.

Our Samsung used to play a nice little tune when it was finished.
I tell you this not to help but to give you something happy to think of.  :D

You want a proper washing machine that provides diagnostic data in the form of leaks and grinding noises.
