Northbound on the A10 Kingsland Road. Junction with Englefield Road (N1)
Lights were green and this big white van comes past and then swings left. No indicator but I saw it quickly and braked hard and tried to throw myself round the corner on his inside.
Smacked the middle of side panal with my right shoulder. I must have pulled my left leg out of the pedal because i just kind of stepped off the bike onto the pavement half way round the corner.
I dont think the bike even touched the van. Maybe the bars did.
He stopped and I thought I was ok (i was still walking I mean)
Got a photo of the van. (Reg, company name and number) and then he left.
Then I realised I couldnt even put my bag back over my shoulder.
A woman had come out of the hardware store on the corner (kTs) and she called an ambulance.
Homerton A+E. Busted collar bone. :(
-
That's a nasty part of the world. Glad you weren't murdered as well.
GWS.
-
Big thanks to the hardware store who looked after the LeMond overnight.
And to the fast response abulance car driver and the big ambulance crew.
And to the staff at Homerton A+E Injury.
-
Bloody Noras :o glad you managed to get a photo, your bike is ok & it looks like you may have a witness.
GWS Naggers.
-
That's a nasty part of the world. Glad you weren't murdered as well.
GWS.
Strange, only the previous evening I was thinking to myself that the road from Stamford Hill to Holloway Road might be one of my favourites in London.
I'm weird ;D
-
Noes!
Naggersbegettingwellsoon, m'kay?
Sam
-
Damnpeeandkackit that's crap driving.
Glad you are not more seriously hurt though a broken collar bone is bad enough.
Did the driver not stop & give his personal details? If not that's a hit & run offence. You should report this to the police & a legal eagle.
GWS
-
oh poo!
-
Ouch. Get well soon, and I do hope the hospital have given you plenty of the really good painkillers in the meantime.
-
No witnesses I guess? Maybe CCTV will show something if you need to claim off the driver’s insurance.
-
Noes!

Bugger, sorry to hear that Naggers. Shame about the collarbone, but at least the LeMond is ok.

I used to live there and I quite like that road, too. Which is weird, because there are some shit drivers down there.
Plz to heal quick. :)
-
GWS!
Document everything and make sure you get a decent lawyer.
-
RavenSam!! :-*
:D :-*
There am be no hug smiley, which is just as well because it might be a bit hurty for you.

Poor Naglet. GWS. Not a pleasant welcome to a new decade. :(
How's the bike?
-
He stopped but was only later I realised I didnt have a name. The picture is good though.
"Nife is life" Italian Deli van.
Not sure if the woman in the shop actually saw it or just heard my shouts and shoulder charge onto sheet metal.
Phoned the Met police reporting number this afternoon and gave some details and got a CAD ref number.
Said they would send someone round until I said I was in luton and then she said I'd need to report it to my local nick also.
Will do that tomorrow as well as phoning CTC and/or the legal bods at my Union.
-
How's the bike?
Not a scratch.
Although closer inspection later might reveal damaged bars, shifters, forks and cracked £400 front wheel :-\
The A+E had to cut off my long loved US Postal jersey and the shoulder strap of my assos bibs :(
-
Glad your alive ! get well soon & good luck with the white van man.
John
-
Sorry to hear this, Naggers. GWS
I sincerely hope your bike doesn't throw up any injuries itself.
-
At the risk of sounding a bit trite. Glad you are ok GWS.
-
Oh dear, that really isn't good at all. Sorry to hear about the collar bone.
The A+E had to cut off my long loved Discovery Channel jersey and the shoulder strap of my assos bibs :(
Straps can easily be sewn back together. Claim for a new pair, mend the old ones and you'll have gained an extra pair of Assos shorts
Back on a serious note, get a bike shop to check the frame as it could have been knocked out of alignment.
-
Wot they all said ...
-
Ow ow ow ow Naggers.....
-
How's the bike?
The A+E had to cut off my long loved US Postal jersey...
Nooooo! :'(
-
Ouch. Are you getting a nice piece of titanium to hold your bone together or is it being left to heal on its own?
-
I don't know you but GWS. Luckily you had the foresight and were able to take a pic of the vehicle. Does it show the registration?
Contact cycling solicitors asap.
Sorry to be a doom merchant but I predict plod fobbing you off which they have done already telling you that it has to be reported to plod in Luton - no! They will then fob you off if you don't have reg of vehicle even though the details of the company/trader are emblazoned on the side, you cannot id the driver. Be prepared for a seriously crap police experience. They were positively obstructive when I was knocked down and tried to get the driver's details and insurance from them. They refused citing the DPA. Bastards.
Anyway GWS. Take a trip to your GP. Your neck and arm may also be hurting as well.
Still at least your bike is ok. Get it checked out though.
-
Ooh b0ll0cks mate, sorry to hear that. Hope you get well soon!!
-
Jeez. Hope it all works out OK. I know that bit of road - normally it's OK but you got the bad luck fairy on your case. Hope everything mends and you are suitably compensated/
-
Ouch. Are you getting a nice piece of titanium to hold your bone together or is it being left to heal on its own?
Campag or Shimano?
Glad it wasn't worse, but collarbones can be very uncomfortable, so you have my sympathies

I broke my collarbone playing Rugby 2 days before my birthday (11th, at a guess). I dunno if medical science has changed in the intervening years, but all I got prescribed were rest, immobilisation of the affected arm, and an early birthday prezzie - a Lego Technic helicopter.
Assembling Lego with one arm was a challenge.
Sympathies and GWS msgs from here too.
-
Must have hit you bloody hard to snap your collarbone.
GWS, hope the break isn't a bad one.
-
Ouch! Sadness!
-
Hells bells, sorry to have missed this mate. Hope you are on the mend now.
Get well soon.

Sorry to hear about this Naggers. May your recovery be quick, and suitable justice be extracted from the driver.

Aw, naggers, sorry to hear about this. Glad you're still with us, and bonus points for an elegant dismount in the circumstances. Hope you get well soon and, given the evidence you have, you track down the perpetrators and get some justice too.
I haven't read all the comments, but i suspect that RJ&W have been mentioned...

RJ&W Russel, Jones and W? the CTCs tame injury lawyers who have a very good reputation in cyclist claims.
-
Ah, right, thanks. Ive actually just sat myself down to start making phonecalls. CTC accident claims advice first on the list.
Still had no joy from the police >:(
-
Russell Jones & Walker (http://www.rjw.co.uk/). Very good solicitors, experienced in thses sort of cases, and the solicitors the CTC will put you in touch with if you are a member..
There are other solicitors available, of course, as AccessLegalGuy would be able to confirm, though I think he is a bit shy of using this forum to promote his firm, which is reasonable, so I think they should be mentioned. Sadly, I can't remember the company name.
-
shoosmiths?
-
Ouch! Sorry to read about this – I would echo suggestions of contacting RJ&W, currently pursuing a claim through them myself.
Hope you recover quickly.
-
CTC just took some details but didn't fill me with any confidence.
I even had to ask if they wanted the Van registration number and they were happy with A10 Kingsland Road, didn't want to record "junction with Englefield Rd"
Two more calls to Luton Police station and Met CAD result in more buck passing >:(
-

When I broke my collar bone a couple of years ago ,we got a lift home ,I was sure it was broken Mrs ONB who used to be a radiograher confirmed the prognosis ,so I removed my favourite camgag top so as to prevent them cutting it off at the hospital and almost passed out in the process but it was worth it. Heal fast and avoid a plate fitting if you can.
-
The nurse offered to try to get it off but I'd already spent an hour thinking how painful it would be and said, don't bother, just get the sissors.
(I do actually own two UPS 6th TdF win jerseys so it's not the end of the world)
-
Sorry to hear about this Naggers....
I too used to like the A10 Kingsland Road, which was part of my commute. Always an 'interesting' road to cycle down. ;)
I'd also suggest Russell, Jones & Walker. Damn good attack dogs to have on your side.
-
Just seen this Naggers :o
GWS matey.
Re my colleagues in The Met and Beds Police- lean on The Met. The collision was on their ground and it is their responsibility to investigate. They may wish to ask colleagues in Beds Police to take a statement from you but, you are injured and may be struggling to get to a police station in Luton. Contact the Met again and stress this. Ask them to make a request of Beds to attend your home address.
PM if you want more advice or to get my number to talk it over.
-
Hope you're feeling better today, Naggers. Any news?
-
Thanks everyone for the GWS's, the gentle virtual hugs and all the advice.
Luton fracture clinic today said 10% chance of needing a pin/plate.
Need another week of rest wearing the sling.
Signed off for six weeks. I might go mad
I just wanna go out for a ride :(
I can't be bothered with getting annoyed on the phone again today.
Maybe tomorrow.

Poor Naggersbeneedingcheeringsup!
What can we do to make you feel better?
Sam
-
Are ther any bionic carbon fibre collar bones in the store room? R/H medium please.
-
I shall have a rummage. I'm pretty sure we're out of carbon fibre collar bones.
I can do you some rusty scaffolding pipe or half a dead chicken, though?
Sam

Campag or Shimano fit?

Cycle accident claims - Access Legal from Shoosmiths (http://www.access-legal.co.uk/services/personal-injury-solicitors/cycle-accident-claims-158.htm)
Thanks, I'll kindly take the invite to promote our service.
As for being shy to promote, well, it's not shyness it's more out of respect not to go onto each thread about a down or injury and shout....oooh hello we can help. Thats almost like a cold call or plain spamming.
I do cycle and have wider cycling safety concerns too ;D

Armchair ambulance chasing ;D
Everyone who knows, knows you do loads of good work on these boards. Nothing wrong with a little self promotion.
I think we all start these threads because we're looking for guidance. I'd rather read your "advert" on here than pick the phone up to one of the million 'no win no fee' merchants who are ramming their services down my throat on daytime TV.
-

Sam
I'll take the rusty scaffold and some zip ties if it gets me back on the bike.
I'll take the half chicken too. How hard can it be making a curry with just my left hand? I've nearly mastered typing with it!
:-*
-
Maybe we should start a donations pot to get Naggersbebroken a Lego Technic Helichopper.
Someone will have to go round and help him build it, though.

Thanks for the link. I thought it was worth giving you a mention, especially as you don't promote the firm at every opportunity. You're part of the community here, and I respect you for it.
Sorry I couldn't remember the company name :-[

No problem. All you need to remember is this...............

Perhaps you should pay unemployed cyclists to ride around the commuter routes all day, wearing the jersey. Then you would be front of mind whenever you were needed :) Not a bad warning for motons too.
-
Despite wearing one myself for my commute it doesn't stop some rather poor passes. Must be motorists passing close to pop the number into their mobiles......
-
Had something in the post from RJW after my call to CTC.
And then a phonecall from them today. Answered a few of my questions.
Seems the van was insured although I don't know the Driver,s name so guess no way of knowing yet if it was valid with him driving.
Got a hospital appointment tomorrow when I think there'll be more x-rays and an update on if it's healing ok.
Still no joy from the Police.
