WVM Left Hook. Broken collar bone
« on: 22 April, 2011, 07:55:27 pm »
Northbound on the A10 Kingsland Road. Junction with Englefield Road (N1)

Lights were green and this big white van comes past and then swings left. No indicator but I saw it quickly and braked hard and tried to throw myself round the corner on his inside.

Smacked the middle of side panal with my right shoulder. I must have pulled my left leg out of the pedal because i just kind of stepped off the bike onto the pavement half way round the corner.
I dont think the bike even touched the van. Maybe the bars did.

He stopped and I thought I was ok (i was still walking I mean)
Got a photo of the van. (Reg, company name and number) and then he left.

Then I realised I couldnt even put my bag back over my shoulder.

A woman had come out of the hardware store on the corner (kTs) and she called an ambulance.

Homerton A+E. Busted collar bone.  :(

That's a nasty part of the world. Glad you weren't murdered as well.

Big thanks to the hardware store who looked after the LeMond overnight.
And to the fast response abulance car driver and the big ambulance crew.
And to the staff at Homerton A+E Injury.

Strange, only the previous evening I was thinking to myself that the road from Stamford Hill to Holloway Road might be one of my favourites in London.

I'm weird  ;D

Damnpeeandkackit that's crap driving.
Glad you are not more seriously hurt though a broken collar bone is bad enough.
Did the driver not stop & give his personal details? If not that's a hit & run offence. You should report this to the police & a legal eagle.

Ouch.  Get well soon, and I do hope the hospital have given you plenty of the really good painkillers in the meantime.

No witnesses I guess?  Maybe CCTV will show something if you need to claim off the driver’s insurance.

I used to live there and I quite like that road, too.  Which is weird, because there are some shit drivers down there.

Plz to heal quick.  :)

He stopped but was only later I realised I didnt have a name. The picture is good though.
"Nife is life" Italian Deli van.

Not sure if the woman in the shop actually saw it or just heard my shouts and shoulder charge onto sheet metal.

Phoned the Met police reporting number this afternoon and gave some details and got a CAD ref number.
Said they would send someone round until I said I was in luton and then she said I'd need to report it to my local nick also.

Will do that tomorrow as well as phoning CTC and/or the legal bods at my Union.

How's the bike?

Not a scratch.

Although closer inspection later might reveal damaged bars, shifters, forks and cracked £400 front wheel  :-\

The A+E had to cut off my long loved US Postal jersey and the shoulder strap of my assos bibs  :(

Sorry to hear this, Naggers.  GWS

I sincerely hope your bike doesn't throw up any injuries itself.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

Oh dear, that really isn't good at all.  Sorry to hear about the collar bone.

The A+E had to cut off my long loved Discovery Channel jersey and the shoulder strap of my assos bibs  :(
Straps can easily be sewn back together.  Claim for a new pair, mend the old ones and you'll have gained an extra pair of Assos shorts

Back on a serious note, get a bike shop to check the frame as it could have been knocked out of alignment.
