DIY with some company
« on: 13 March, 2012, 09:48:43 pm »
With work commitments I am needing to do DIYs to compl;ete a RRTY. Done a couple solo Billy no mates enjoyable rides but a long old day on your own.

Today I was lucky to have Rob "Bairdy" and Dave a lapsed Audaxer recently rejoined for company on a DIY 200. Route was from Barry South Wales to Kenn near Clevedon and back mixture of A and B roads plus an enjoyable country lane sectioin between Easton in Gordano and Clevedon.

Saw much wildlife along the lanes including birds of pray and even had a deer dash across the road just behind us oddly.

What a difference some company makes. The day was a real pleasure thanks to Dave and Robb instead of just doing the neccessary to fill in the months I cant get to calendar events.

It was good fun mate. I'll be up for more weekday rides, I usually get Wednesdays off but can change it to suit if I give enough warning.

I went down the A370 to Bridgwater, then back to Bristol, past Ashton Gate and along the gorge under the suspension bridge, then out to Avonmouth Village and up the coast road past Severn Beach to Aust, then up to Berkeley via the Neate and Hill, then home...  (208 km DIYxGPS)

So that's probably "no" as I can't seem to find the A430 anywhere...  :P

With Bairdies local knowledge I discovered the route througfh Avonmouth Village is much less stressfull than negotiating the monster roundabouts getting to the path over the Avonmouth Bridge. Then didnt end up on a muddy track after leaving the Bridge on the other side. Actually managed to do a ride with only as many kilometers as planned which is unusual for me  ;D

Suspect he meant the A403?

It's normally Awst round here, but in some parts of Bristol is a bit more Orst or even Orrst. Have neveer heard other possible pronunciations used, like Owst or Ost.

What makes me laugh is when he tries and gives up on easy welsh places names.

Didn't toot.
Didn't want you to think it was a "GET OUT OF THE WAY" toot.
I pronounce it Ost, but what do I know, I'm from up North.
